Service Opportunities at CKMC

At CKMC we have a number of ministry teams in which you can use your gifts and talents.
We like to call it ... "Getting out of the Saltshaker and into the World!"  Jesus called us the salt of the earth -- so how salty are you these days?  In order to make an impact, the Body of Christ needs to be involved with one another and reaching out in love to those around us.

At CKMC, we have plenty of teams to choose from -- there is a place for everyone!
If you would like to learn more, please contact the office at 919-489-1711.

Sunday Worship

Scripture Readers
read the Sunday text for either service. Readers usually read every other month & do not meet as
a team.
Sound System/Tape Team
We have two teams (1st & 2nd service) who oversee the media and technical components of running each worship service. This requires some computer knowledge and a willingness to sit “behind the scenes”.
Communion Preparation Team provide and prepare bread and grape juice for monthly communion. Prayer Team
The CKMC prayer team prays for the concerns of the church family. They are also available for one-to one intercessory prayer following the Sunday worship services. This team meets monthly for prayer, training and encouragement. Contact Pastor Frank, and/or come to the next prayer team meeting!
The Welcome/Greeter Teams
are often the first persons a newcomer sees at CKMC. The impression they give is the "first impression" of who we are as a church family. They can also set the tone of the church day for newcomer or old timer alike. It is a vital role and brings real satisfaction when your cherry "Good Morning!" brings a smile to a face.  Other tasks include making "stick on" nametags for newcomers and offering literature & directions. They stay at the table for the first few minutes of the service to welcome late visitors and make sure that a permanent nametag is prepared for all our regular worshippers!
Refreshments Teams
(
Feeding the Flock)

The goal of this ministry is for church members & newcomers to have an extended opportunity to get to know one another, ask questions about our church & feel welcomed. The food is the catalyst to help people accomplish this. Members help purchase supplies, set up refreshments & clean up once a month.

Ushers
work on a rotating basis, usually once a month at either the 1st or 2nd service. The goals of this team are 1) to welcome people to the worship service and help them to feel at home, and 2) distribute bulletins, take up the offering, and seat people as necessary.
Offering/Counting Team
This team rotates on a monthly basis and is responsible for counting the offerings and making deposits on Sundays.

Artisans at Worship
If you are artistic or enjoy decorating, come create visual components to enhance & impact our corporate worship and our church home. Men & women welcome!
Children’s Moment Team
Our little ones are never too little to learn about the Lord during corporate worship. For that very reason, we offer them a Children’s Moment during the service just for them. If you like presenting to kids, then this is the right spot for you.

Nurture at CKMC

Small Group Ministries
Small groups provide a "family within the church family" where you can develop friendships while doing interesting studies. It's always a great time to join a group. Sunday mornings just don't give us the time to get to know each other. Small groups do. So, don't be just a Sunday face, find your very own special place in a CKMC small group.
“Since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other." 1 John 4:11
Network Ministry
Our goal is to encourage everyone to use their spiritual gifts to serve the body of Christ and to provide the structure to ensure that everyone's gifts and interests are matched appropriately to current church needs & new ministry opportunities. Members of the team are needed who can 1) welcome newcomers and make sure they find a place of ministry in the church, and 2) serve as a liaison between the various ministries and members of the church.
Christian Education Teams
We meet monthly on Wonderful Wednesdays from 6:45-8 p.m. throughout the school year. CE is responsible for Sunday Christian Education as well as special programming for adults & children.

The purpose of the CE Teams are to enable our whole congregation to grow to know, love, and serve Jesus Christ more deeply, Ephesians 4:11-16 provides the biblical framework for what we hope to accomplish together.

Singles Ministry & Seniors Ministry
Currently, we do not have organized teams to support these ministries.  These are areas of ministry that need attention and anyone who would like to organize them is welcome to begin the visioning process!
Women's Ministry
Our goal is to promote and cultivate friendships among women; use our gifts for service to CKMC and the community - local and worldwide; and to provide opportunities to enrich and nurture spiritual growth among women.  THREE primary projects help us work toward this goal:

1. the Women’s Retreat in the spring; 2. the Moravian Bazaar in November,  3. the Christmas Dinner in December. We nurture one another through worship & relationships while serving the Lord.

Men's Ministry
The highlight of our CKMC Men's ministry is our annual retreat in the mountains each fall, and our annual campout at a lake each spring.  We also sponsor Promise Keepers events and other men's conferences, host CKMC men's small group weekly studies, and host an annual Super Bowl party.  We have been involved in CKMC work projects, mowing teams, and have fielded different team sports.

Music Ministries

The Worship Team
This team meets each Wednesday evening at 6pm and early Sunday morning during the entire year. The goal of the team is to provide spirit-filled leadership in music as an act of worship. We incorporate a diversity of musical gifts (instrumental and vocal). We welcome pianists, guitar & bass players, vocalists, drummers, brass players.
King’s Kids & Singers
We have two children's choirs at CKMC, which meet during the school year -- King's Kids (age 4 to 2nd Grade) and King's Singers (3-5th Grade). Coordinators, assistants, nursery workers and snack helpers are needed.  Currently, these groups are on hiatus.

Building & Grounds

The goal of the B&G Team is to maintain
the building & grounds. The Work Day Coordinator plans a fall and spring cleanup/repair day. Volunteers pull weeds, plant bulbs, clean up trash, pick up limbs, etc. outside while others paint inside, clean houses, etc. Lunch & Nursery is provided.
Various positions for maintaining the building on a year round basis include air & heating, lighting, small appliance repairs, etc. In the Spring, four mowing teams cut the grass once a month on a rotating basis until the weather gets cold.

Outreach and Missions

Coffee Mug Visits
The goal of this team is to deliver a CKMC mug to first time visitors as soon as possible, to welcome them back to CKMC.
(3 teams: Raleigh, Durham & Chapel Hill)
TLC Team
The TLC (Tender Loving Care) Team is a group of about 30 women (or men) that help to physically nurture our church family during times of joy, healing, or sadness. We have two teams that provide meals to a family in need. Each team member is only responsible for one dish; not the entire meal. A team member is called by one of the coordinators & asked to either provide a main dish, vegetable, salad, dessert, or beverage & bread. The dish is brought to the church and delivered to the family. Each team member serves approximately 3-4 times a year. Being part of the TLC Team is an easy & practical way to express your concern or love for individuals & families with comfort food!
Fellowship/Outreach Team
The goals are 1) to nurture development of the church through social activities, 2) to contribute to other outreach and ministry efforts of the church, and 3) to encourage closer relationships with each other, especially to get to know and involve newer members (or members-to-be). Members decide on social activities for each year and carry out the activities (promote, make sign-up sheets, write articles for the newsletter, help set up and clean up activities).

Alpha Team
The Alpha course is a practical introduction to the Christian faith, using video and live talks as well as small group discussions. Each course includes a weekend retreat and written materials, such as the book, Questions of Life, by Nicky Gumbel.
This course is a must for everyone to participate in at least once, and is perfect for inviting your friends to learn more about the Christian faith.

Alpha Team members include:

-Small group leaders and helpers
-Set up and clean up crews
-Alpha retreat team
-Worship team
-Alpha publicity coordinator
-Alpha planning team
-Coordinator of materials and book table
Short Term Missions Teams
travel to cross-culturally diverse locations and serve physical needs as well as share the gospel. Recent trips were to Chad, Africa and Ahuas, Honduras.
Missions Team
This team meets monthly on Wonderful Wednesdays at 6:45pm. We strive to provide opportunities for our congregation to offer time, talents and resources to spread the gospel. Local ministries include Pregnancy Support Services, Child Evangelism Fellowship, Interfaith Hospitality Network, etc.

Children & Youth

Children at CKMC
The Child Care Team meets monthly on Wonderful Wednesdays at 6:45 pm. The goals of this team are 1) to provide a nurturing, learning environment in our infant & toddler nurseries, 2) to provide appropriate & nurturing caregivers for our infants & toddlers, and 3) to implement & maintain the Child Care Forms for Children & Caregivers.

Since the beginning of the baby boom at CKMC, the number of helpers needed to oversee our little ones has grown tremendously. The Coordinator for Sunday School Nurseries is responsible for scheduling volunteer caretakers and participation on the Child Care Team (providing input, insight, suggestions and service.) Additional Team members are also responsible for participation at meetings, providing input, insight, suggestions and service. Nursery Caretakers for infants and toddlers are needed for worship services (monthly rotations), Sunday School (monthly rotations) & Special Events.

Youth ministry
at CKMC is a vital part of church life and the discipleship of teens and young adults. Through fun, teaching, small groups, missions, retreats and worship, we help young people grow in their knowledge and love of Jesus Christ. Our motto “Living for Jesus, Going with Jesus, and Becoming Like Jesus" emphasizes the Lordship of Jesus Christ, the mission of the church, and the discipleship of the student. We are not the church of tomorrow, we are part of the church today.

If you love God, love kids, and love what kids do; if you have gifts of teaching, compassion, creativity, listening or wisdom; and if you have room in your week and your heart for some 11-18 year olds; then we want you!
