Arrived safely at lodgings with Samaritan's Purse.

Tuesday, 4/18

Team got up and dressed by 7 am for training, and began work at 10 am.

Pictures from the first day of work:

Wednesday, 4/19

The Team finished the house in New Orleans today and had to leave the blessing that was Gerald Williams. He was a true blessing to us and we will never forget him or his family. Anthony did Yoeman's work in the attic of the house, stabilizing a wall that could have fallen with the next hard wind. The team did all that could be done for this man but we were the ones blessed by his love for the Lord.

We moved on to the next house, 17 miles south of Gretna deep in the Bayou. The road down looked like the Bubba Gump scene out of Forrest Gump. We rode through a wildlife preserve to get to a House where the owner had not heard from anyone in almost 8 months. She kept praying for this day and when we arrived she was so happy she could cry. We started work on her house and will be continuing on Thursday. The area is truly beautiful, but the house needs some TLC. So does the Owner. Had a digital camera breakdown but will have pictures by Thursday afternoon

Love to all,

Eric and the Team

Thursday, 4/20

Well, the cold spell is over in NO. We had to be over 90 with high humidity. We all but finished Denise's house and she is so grateful. You can see a spark coming back into her life. She says she knew Jesus would help, and he sent her dirty little angels from Durham to do it.  She fed us Gumbo today for lunch and told Boudreaux and Thibedoux stories.  We fellowshipped for almost an hour, what a great time. The spirit is with us here, there is no denying that. We worked harder, sweated more, and felt better today then any day here. His spirit cools and protects us.

We ate out at the Samaritan's Purse crew secret seafood restaurant then to the bayou to be eaten by bugs. We have had a great day with blessing poured out on us in ways you cannot imagine. Elizabeth is organizing us with gentle nudges, Ellen is keeping us hydrated, when she is not truckin' the wheelbarrow full of junk. Joe and Chuck move with a quiet (this may be due to the masks we are forced to wear) calm, finishing tasks and moving on. Anthony and Bill have taken to tearing out ceilings as if they were born to do it, and I (Eric) have been on my knees mucking out closets, and under stairways. No lengthy time together could have oiled this machine as the Holy spirit has.

Though we have been together for only 5 days we seem to read each others minds and know what needs to be done. We are truly led through these tasks by him and rejoice in it. There are a few picture to follow that will show what we are doing and one that will show why he has brought us to this house at this time, his time.

Love,

Eric

Denise's House

Neighbor's house who lost everything

All of the kitchen appliances and cabinets had to go, but we managed to save the counter top

This house was built by Denise's father who died before it was finished.  Before some for the sheetrock was put up she signed the wood stud, thinking the message might never be seen.  It has been: "Thanks Dad for making this house possible"

Friday, 4/21

We had a very productive day,  Each working harder to get the projects done.   We finished up in the bayou today and Denise was so thankful.  She prayed over us a blessing that is sure to cover us for a long time.

Two teams from Michigan said good bye and another leaves in the morning.  We have decided to stay till about noon on Saturday to do as much as we can for our newest brother.  His name is Steve Fox, an officer with the New Orleans Pd .  We are clearing out his mother-in-law's house.  She is staying in a FEMA trailer with him and his wife.  He told us we are saving his marriage.

The house is in Lakeview, a pretty little neighborhood where everyone was friends, we were told.  He also told of the week he spent in the Superdome working nonstop for 7 days, breaking his hand stopping a fight at 4 am the following Saturday.  His house was a total loss so he just asked us to please help out his mother-in-law.  We worked hard all afternoon and will do what we can tomorrow.  He is a new Christian so we ask prayers upon him.

Love to all,
